The variable capacitance diode KV1471E of Shikues, also known as “variable reactance diode”, is made by taking advantage of the characteristics that the size of the junction capacitance changes with the applied voltage when the PN junction is reverse biased. When the reverse bias voltage increases, the junction capacitance decreases, and vice versa, the capacitance of the varactor diode is generally small, its maximum value is tens of pF to hundreds of pF, and the ratio of the maximum capacitance to the minimum capacitance is about 5:1.

It is mainly used for auto-tuning, frequency modulation and equalization in high-frequency circuits, for example, as a variable capacitor in the tuning circuit of a television receiver.

The varactor diode KV1471E mainly highlights the nonlinear relationship between capacitance and voltage through a series of ways such as structural design and technology, and improves the Q value for application. The electrostatic capacity of the PN junction will change when the reverse voltage is applied. Therefore, it is often used in automatic frequency control, scanning oscillation, frequency modulation and tuning circuits.

Generally, silicon diffusion diodes are used, but special diodes made of alloy diffusion type, epitaxial bonding type and double diffusion type can also be used, because these diodes have a very large change rate of electrostatic capacity for voltage. The junction capacitance changes with the reverse voltage VR, replaces the variable capacitance, and is used as the tuning circuit, oscillation circuit, and phase-locked loop. It is often used in the channel conversion and tuning circuit of TV tuner, and is mostly made of silicon material.
